Entry #11 Blogging Experience

Hello Fellow Bloggers! This semester was the first time I have ever blogged. It was a great experience because you could able to expand in your writing. At the beginning of the semester I was worried about blogging because, I haven't had any previous experience in this form of writing. All the writing I had done before was the persuasive, pro and cons, descriptive essays. Even though I thought the descriptive essay and blogging were similar but I was wrong. Blogging was essentially like a grown persons diary. When our first blog was assigned, I didn't take the experience serious because I thought it was going to be an easy 100%. When I looked on canvas to see my grade I notice I fell really short. I knew I could have done better so I was disappointed in myself.Towards the end of the semester I started to add more detail. More details to paint a picture for the reader, which was extremely difficult more me. Due to the fact that blogging got me out of my comfort zone helped me improve my writing. Since blogging is a growing form of writing, other teacher should do the same as Mr. Nielson and have their students write blogs as well. Something I learn from writing blogs was that there are many kinds of them. When people would tell me to read their blog,I would just think they were writing about there day. In reality there are many kinds of blogs like professional, personal and much more. Overall this blogging experience was great, maybe I should start my own personal blog but yet again I already have a Tumblr.

Extra Credit_ Food inc.

Hello Fellow Bloggers!

The other day I was recommended to watch a movie called Food inc.  It was on Netflix so I gave it a chance. This movie opened my eyes on how the industrial food plants work and honestly the process they used was disturbing. One of the facts that was mentioned in the movie went something like this “ Because the male chickens shouldn't produce eggs, they are all collected and dumped into the trash to died” That fact made me teary because how can people be so cruel towards animals especially when the are so small. At the same time little part of me was happy because they had a short life. Good for them because the female chickens lived in terrible conditions, with feces and dead chickens everywhere. They were forced to live in buildings with thousands of other chickens. There was this 10 second segment of the movie where the farmers where picking up the chickens would arrive at night and they would kick the chickens into cages. what was sickening was that a lot of the people that ran these companies that would engineer the poor animal work for the EPA, FDA. Where is the safety of the consumer? It is nowhere to be found. In my opinion we should go back to where we started but people want convenience. This is why I try to support them the least I can and try to purchased mostly everything organic. Now I am off to brush my teeth will my organic toothpaste.

Entry #10 The Wings

Hello Fellow Blogger.

Today while I was eating some chicken wings for lunch at the hospital cafeteria. I realized that every time that I would eat the wings I would get this thirst that wouldn't go away. I haven't really put thought into the cause because I was always distracted cause of work. But today because it was a calm day, I started to question my self. The first thought that came into my mind was “what if i have diabetes?” this is because one of the symptoms of diabetes in having a lot of thirst. Yet again it only happened when I ate chicken wings so I was puzzled. I asked one of my nurse friends who just got her masters and is going to become a nurse practitioner soon and told her what was going on. After a series of questions, she told me that it was probably because of the high salt concentration in the wings. She explained that when there is too much salt in the body, the body tried to dilute the salt with water. After she said that it all clicked in, I remembered something my biology teacher have mention before that “water always followed water”. I felt relieved after the news.

Entry #9 Is that Pinks Slime?

Hello Fellow bloggers!

Have you heard of the pink slime situation that is going around? It's been going around for a while but I just read a couple articles and it made my stomach scared. I knew a few fast food restaurants were guilty of using it and it seems like a giving because of the price of their hamburgers. What really caught me by surprise was that supermarkets were using this slime in their meats as well. I am highly against the decision of using this pink slime unless they let the consumer aware of what they are doing. In my opinion I think they should label it just like they label spam. The only difference is that we don't really know was the consequences of this slime is. The people should know where it at least know where it comes. It is actually sad how our government allows this to happen but yet again it is for convenience and price. So now again when I pass be the meat aisle, my face will be disguised.

Entry #8 Temptations

Hello Fellow Blogger!

Today I did something that I wasn't supposed to do. Something that I been doing ever since I was a little kid. My mom would tell me “Juan cannot eat those, they are bad for you!” I had a feeling they were bad just from the reddish color residue that was left on my fingers.  I could just imagine what it did to my stomach lining. But the spicy sensation was what brought me back to eating them, even though deep down they were going to be bad for me. Everything I would go to the supermarket I would ask my parents to buy me a bag to satisfy my desire. After I got my hands on dollar bag filled of potato imitated goodness, I could not get home fast enough. All I would want to do it to prepare with lemon juice and mexican hot sauce. Since I got tired of my mom yelling at me to stop eating them, I finally decided to stop eating them. But I saw someone eating a bag of hot cheetos, so I fell back into temptation. I can just imagine the words my mom will say to me when she notices me red fingers. Yes, I tried scrubbing them but of course the reddish color wouldn't come out. I now for a fact how bad they are to my health. My mom was right, sadly.

Entry #7 The movie Fresh!

Hello Fellow bloggers!

The other day while I was eating my peanut butter and jelly sandwich on my way to class, I remembered that we were going to watch a movie. I got excited because watching movies in college is a priviledge. The movie we got to watch was called Fresh. This might sound cliche but this movie was eye opening, It was sad how so called farmers would treat their animals and how much pesticide was sprayed on to the crops, made me feel guilty of eating that peanut butter and jelly sandwich before class. Something that was really shocking was that free-range farming was much cheaper than the factory farms and at the same time free range farming got a greater profit. At first I thought it seemed odd because factory farms are ment to produce livestock at a faster rate than free-range while using less resource. The movie made me realize how much money factory farm spent on vetenarians, medicines, and the cost of food to keep there animals healthy. This movie does matter, it make you rethink what food choices you make. It also makes you not want t to support the inhumane animal treatment. Movies like this puzzles people's mind towards food choices but its the right thing to do. After class was over I chose to not eat out, I decided to go home and make myself something to eat at home. Sadly, even the food we buy from the store are grown terribly, but luckly my parents buy nothing but organic food. I highly recommend this movie. Your way of thinking towards farming will never be the same.
